Mirjam Lücking is an anthropologist, working on the relationship between Indonesia and the Middle East. She analyzes how contemporary transnational connections relate to local political, religious and socio-cultural dynamics. Her PhD project, which she completed in 2017 at the University of Freiburg, Germany, concerned the experiences of Indonesian labour migrants and Mecca pilgrims. Mirjam draws on long-term research experiences in Indonesia and currently conducts research on tourism from Indonesia to Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
